To become a nurse, first things first

I am set on my pursuit to a nurse profession.

As luck would have it, Saturday, October 7, 2017, was my sister-in-law Kim’s birthday. She is a nurse. My brother invited me to party with them. I felt that Source was helping me fulfill my dream. That I would be able to get information on how Kim became a nurse.

It turns out she obtained her bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree at CSU Fullerton. She likes being a nurse, but it’s tough sometimes and the money is good. She recommended I get a BSN because this is what employers look at when they hire nurses. Kim has a management position with Kaiser Permanente.

I informed her I am interested in being a pediatric nurse. She said that’s a good field to be in. She was a pediatric nurse. It was emotional for her because she became attached to some of her patients. When a patient dies, it’s heart breaking.

I want to go to CSU Long Beach because they have a good nursing program.

Kim recommended I see a counselor at CSULB for course guidance. Kim and my brother were very supportive. I felt good about this, and fired up.

On October 9, 2017, I called CSULB. The female stated they do not provide counseling or guidance unless I am part of their program. She recommended I call a community college for help, and that I need to take prerequisites such as anatomy, psychology, etc.

I informed her I obtained my degree from a foreign country. She suggested I have my transcripts evaluated. She said that the community college would be able to guide me further. If I fulfill the transfer requirements then I can get my BSN at CSULB.

I called Long Beach City College (LBCC) for a counseling appointment. The male said I had to apply online to get a Viking Student ID number first before setting up an appointment.

I went on the LBCC website to apply for my Student ID number.

On October 10, 2017, I decided to resign from my job.

On October 11, 2017, I received an email from LBCC with my new Student ID number! I was very happy. 😀

On October 16, 2017, I set an appointment with Academic Counseling to see a guidance counselor for Wednesday, October 25, at 4:00 p.m.
